Martin Dolan

Martin Dolan has been practicing law in Oregon since 1987 and in Washington since 2005. Mr. Dolan has litigated hundreds of cases. He has a reputation for achieving significant outcomes for his clients before juries in both state and federal courts. He has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell with the highest AV rating for legal ability and ethical standards. This rating signifies that a lawyer’s peers rank the attorney at the highest level of professional excellence.

Mr. Dolan has an extensive background in employment litigation. He represents employees and employers with issues arising in the workplace including discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, sexual harassment, hostile work environment, family medical leave, whistleblowing, injured workers’ rights (such as workers’ compensation discrimination), wage and hour issues, workplace health & safety, employment agreements, unemployment issues and civil rights violations. In addition to these areas of focus, Mr. Dolan represents clients in other areas of general civil litigation. In addition to litigation, Mr. Dolan also has experience in arbitration, administrative proceedings, appeals, mediation, and negotiation.

Mr. Dolan received his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1986. He served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Richard Schlegel of the Iowa Court of Appeals. In 1987, he moved to Oregon to take a position as an attorney in the Honors Program of the Oregon Department of Justice. He later became a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Trial Division of the Department of Justice, where he concentrated on litigation, employment and tort law. In 1996, he joined the Portland law firm of Ramis Crew Corrigan and Bachrach LLP. As a partner in that firm, he developed a practice with an emphasis on employment law. In 2002, Mr. Dolan co-founded the employment law firm of Dolan Griggs LLP. For over thirteen years, Dolan Griggs LLP was one of the most successful small firms practicing employment law in Portland. In 2015, Mr. Dolan started the employment law firm of Dolan Law Group PC with his two daughters, Caitlin Dolan and Megan Dolan.

Mr. Dolan graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in 1967. He went on to receive a M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1979. Before pursuing a career in law, Mr. Dolan spent six years as a professor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and at the American University in Cairo teaching English and film. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Dolan spent several years in East Africa with a relief services agency assisting African communities with basic food and infrastructure needs.

Mr. Dolan is a member of both the Oregon State Bar and the Washington State Bar. He is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Oregon and Washington, the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and the United States Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Dolan works too hard to have any hobbies or interests.
